A day in the life of…. a Digital Marketing Manager.

Ever wondered what it is like to be a Digital Marketing Manager in an internal role? Megan Forster, Digital Marketing Manager of JAG Method, gives us a glimpse into a typical day’s work.

6am: Wake up time, unless our nearly-2-year old son wakes us up earlier (before 5 – which is normally the case!)

8am: Arrive at work, make a life-saving coffee, check and reply to my emails. Look through my notebook at my to-do list and prioritize for the day..

8.30am: Health check on accounts, through AdWords and our internal data management platform. Highlighting any areas which need immediate attention. Looking at whether there are any campaigns which have a higher CPA (cost per acquisition) than our EPA (earning per acquisition). Also, I check in on any current experiments we are running.

9.30am: Dependant on the outcome of the previous task, I will either bring this to the attention of the relevant people or work on solving the highlighted area myself.

10am: Meeting regarding the launch a new website and product. How can marketing help boost this?

11am: Another cup of the yummiest coffee! Thanks JAG!

11.05am: Follow-up email from meeting, including the next steps for marketing team; platforms that we will be utilising, keyword research, expected results and spend.

11.30am: A deep-dive into AdWords accounts, considering potential opportunities and areas where we can expand. Creating short codes for any new campaigns (this is so that we can track right through the funnel to our internal data systems) and building out new campaigns. Optimising current campaigns in order to get the best performance possible.

12.30pm: Lunch break – today was a Texx salad from Tashas, sooooo yum!

1.30pm: Any tasks which are on my to do list for the day. This can range from ad copy refresh to sending marketing reports.

2.30pm: Channel meeting – a meeting with the other channels in the company. This is one of my favourite meetings as it allows the departments to know what each other has been up to, what is working, what isn’t and what can we learn from one another and utilise in our own departments. This is so very important in a fast-paced environment, as it can become so easy to work in silo, and not utilise the valuable information sitting right in front of you.

3.30pm: Head out of the office to pick up my son from school.

4.30pm: Arrive home, get the baby settled and reply to emails or slack messages.

4.45: Create my list of things for the next day. I am a big fan of lists (and a lover of notebooks) as i find it easier to know what is a priority if i have it written down in front of me.

5-5.30pm: Done for the day and time for family.
