A day in the life of…. a Recruitment Associate.
Daniel is an Associate for VentureWeb and enjoys a fulfilling, travel-rich life working as a Regional Admissions Advisor for École hôtelière de Lausanne. Read more about how he remains constantly passionate about his exciting role, despite sometimes the lack of sleep!
- What is it that you do, in a nutshell?
My job is to travel the Americas and recruit amazing students to attend École hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL), a hospitality management school in Switzerland, consistently regarded as the best hospitality management school in the world! - How do you get your day started? What do mornings look like for you?
It all depends on where I am. My office is located in San Francisco, but I travel a great deal. Instead of typical office mornings, mine are filled with recruitment activities such as conducting school visits and webinars; attending school fairs; creating trip reports for every region I visit; maintaining contact with prospective students, parents and counsellors; updating our CRM; as well as a lot of project management and travel time. - What does your workspace look like/consist of?
My San Francisco office is right on the Pier with a beautiful view of the Bay Area. When I’m not there, my office is a plane, Uber, hotel lobby, coffee shop, or hotel room. I like to change things up! - How do you manage to stay motivated in your work day, given that you work remotely with no face time with your teammates & stakeholders?
I absolutely love my job and my purpose. I’ve always believed in the power of education and now I get to spread my message working for an amazing university. I’ve had challenges with long trips (the lack of sleep), but I know I’m making a difference and I love speaking with students, parents, and counsellors. I consider what I do my “dream job”. - What would you say consistently takes up the most time in your work day?
Thinking—how to be more efficient and market EHL more effectively; strategizing logistics for events and recruitment trips; organizing the projects on my plate. I’m always thinking and planning to be the best Admissions Officer I can be. - Does this work suit your life? If so, why – what do you enjoy the most.
At this point in my life, yes, this job suits my life. It presents me with the challenges I need and want to excel in my career. It forces me to push myself, my way of thinking, and to be a better employee. I enjoy the opportunities EHL has given to me—to travel, experience new cultures, people and food—and also the faith they have in my ability to represent their brand.
